Playing in front of their home crowd, Whangarei Boys' High School made it two wins in a row after defeating Orewa College in the North Harbour 1A first XV competition on Saturday.
The game had no forgiveness.
It was end to end that had ample venom in the physical exchanges.
After trading early penalties, the visitors scored first down the blindside from a set-piece scrum that caught out the Whangarei Boys' High School defence.
However, the hosts were quick to respond with a try in the corner just before halftime to Jayden Leaupepe. Orewa College led 13-11 at halftime.
WBHS started the second half with an increased level of enthusiasm, although continued handling errors meant giving possession back to Orewa.
The deadlock was broken in the second half when WBHS scored an electric try after some dominant forward play that led to quick ball through the backline and a try to the speedster out wide, Eaun Sapwell.
For WBHS Javahn Repia and Dion Hinge had great games, working hard all day in a strong overall forward pack, while in the backs Stili Antonio was hard for Orewa to stop with his direct running and uncompromising defence.
WBHS defeated Takapuna Grammar 33-13 in round one and play Rosmini College in Takapuna next week.
