And then there were three.

With Waipu defeating Kamo 25-13 in the penultimate round of the Bayleys Premier competition, just one finals spot remains up for grabs.

Old Boys Marist, Mid Northern and now Waipu have clinched semifinal berths, but the final one is in the air.

It will go to either Hora Hora, Wellsford or Western Sharks.

Sharks and Wellsford sit five points adrift of Hora Hora, which means a Hora Hora loss and a big win is required for one of them to make the grade.

This is far easier said than done after Hora Hora picked up a strong 27-20 win over Mid Northern.

Both sides were in try-scoring moods in Hukerenui with each picking up a four try bonus point.

Hora Hora's goal kicking proved to be the difference as they hit two conversions and a penalty goal in their biggest match of the year.

Meanwhile Sharks fell 39-31 to the dominant OBM.

Sharks started off very strongly scoring a great try off broken play, putting the home side under a bit of pressure.

When the teams traded penalty goals half way through the first half, it looked as though this was going to be a very tightly contested battle which could go either way.

But tries to Troy Gilbert and Peter Breen gave OBM the much needed scoreboard dominance.

It wasn't long however until the Sharks levelled the scores with a great try of their own. However a try just before half time gave the defending champions the 24-17 halftime lead.

Once again the second half was a tightly contested arm wrestle with neither side breaking away on the scoreboard.

Renata Roberts-Tenana scored arguably the try of the season from broken play.

He mistimed a kick on his 10m line, sliced through a handful of tackles to run 60m and score in the corner.

Wellsford on the other hand picked up a very strong 40-26 win over Mid Western to set the stage for a tense final round fixture.

Wellsford will need another offensive performance like that to make the top four.

Waipu's win ended Kamo's chances at a semifinal berth after a strong season from the Magpies. They will be one to watch come 2018.

The other clash saw Hikurangi pip Otamatea 25-22.
