"We are going there to enjoy this opportunity and produce some quality rugby.
"At the same time it will play a key part in our preparations for the upcoming Super Rugby season and we have some goals to achieve while the rest of the squad are preparing at home.
"We are bringing some players who are exciting runners given some space and opportunity. We are keen to play a physical and open running game that will be both effective and attractive."
Dan Pryor will also be involved in the Tens, named in the Highlanders squad.
Northland's presence could have been even more prolific had injuries not felled players.
Hooker Matt Moulds, flanker Kara Pryor and lock Josh Goodhue were not considered due to injury with Goodhue picking up his during their pre-season victory over the Chiefs.
The Brisbane Global Tens brought some interesting characters out of retirement last year including the likes of former Australian backs Morgan Turinui, Chris Latham, Andrew Walker and Lote Tuqiri.
This year Carlos Spencer headlines the former stars. The enigmatic first five played 35 tests for the All Blacks and was known for his flamboyant style.
Umaga said having the experience of Spencer involved can only be a positive for the side.
"Carlos is an iconic player who is still capable of performing on the field," he said.
"He is also developing into an excellent coach, so our players have a unique opportunity to learn from him."
