Have you seen this red blanket?

Police investigating the burglary of a Dargaville gun collector's home where 15 high-powered firearms were taken are asking people to look out for a distinctive red blanket.

The red polyester-velvet type blanket is missing and investigators believe it may have been used to carry the firearms away from the property.

"It may be that the offenders have kept this blanket and a family member or friend has noticed it. They could also have dumped it and we'd like to hear from anyone who may have seen it," said Detective Inspector Kevin Burke of Northland police.

"We realise the photo of the blanket isn't the best, but let us be very clear; these high-powered firearms are in the hands of criminals, we are doing everything we can to identify and locate the offender/s and to get these guns off them, but we need public assistance - it's not just any old blanket, it could help us to solve this very serious case," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Whangarei Police on 09 430 4520 or anonymously on Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
