Police have made an arrest after an early-morning assault of a woman in her Whangārei home last month.

A man, 23, appeared in the Whangārei District Court yesterday charged with wounds with intent to injure and two counts of impedes breathing.

The man, who has name suppression, is due back in court today.

Police were called to Murdoch Cres in Raumanga about midnight on November 25 after reports a woman had been injured.

She was taken to hospital.

Whangārei-Kaipara Area Commander Inspector Maria Nordstrom reassured the public a stranger was not involved.

“I know this can be unsettling for the community, but please be reassured that this offender is now in custody.”

Nordstrom said police had “left no stone unturned” to identify the man and make an arrest.

She thanked the community for their help with the case and residents for their understanding during the investigation.
