A person died in the water near Teal Bay on Northland’s east coast yesterday.

Police were made aware of a deceased person on Owai Ave at Helena Bay around 4.30pm yesterday.

The end of the avenue leads to the estuary at Teal Bay.

A spokesperson said the body was recovered and the death would be referred to the coroner.

“Our thoughts are with their family at this difficult time.”
