An unveiling for the highly-regarded Ngati Kuri kuia Hana Waitai Murray, better known as Saana, is being held at Kapo Wairua Marae above Spirits Bay on November 23.
The powhiri will begin at 9.30am followed by a dedication at the urupa at 11am and a hakari (banquet) at Te Hikuo Te Ika Marae in Te Hapua. A powhiri for guests needing to stay at Te Hapua will be held at 6pm on November 22.
A memorial to Rapine (Rob) Simon Murray will also be unveiled.
Mrs Saana Murray was the last surviving claimant in the historic Wai 262 Treaty claim on Maori cultural and intellectual property when she died in September 2011.
Said to be one of the most complex and far-reaching claims ever lodged, Wai 262 sought protection for cultural knowledge such as the haka and ta moko as well as Maori rights to native flora and fauna.
