Powerlifting: Whangarei to host top event

The Northland Powerlifting Association will host the North Island Powerlifting Championships in Whangarei next month.

The event will be held at the Northland Table Tennis Club in Kensington on June 6 and will cater for equipped and classic/raw lifting through all age and weight classes.

One of the organisers, Whangarei's Katrina Barrett, said that 19 lifters from across Northland had already qualified but the final number of entries for the championships had yet to be confirmed.

"This competition will feature some of the best lifters in the North Island.

"We're stoked to have this kind of event in Northland. It's been years since it was held here."

She said the competition offered lifters the opportunity to see how they're doing ahead of the nationals in July.
