Police are appealing for sightings of a Whangarei man who has been missing for a week.

Joe Lloyd-Jones, known as Joey, disappeared from a friend's house on Leith St in Morningside some time after 2am last Saturday.

Northland police Search and Rescue co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe said Mr Lloyd-Jones visited a friend on Leith St on January 26.

The friend, Mr Metcalfe said, had been concerned about Mr Lloyd-Jones' mental health for some time.

"He [Joey] was put to bed at 2am [January 27]. His friend got up and found him missing. Police have been making enquiries with his family and friends," Mr Metcalfe said.

A Search and Rescue team yesterday scoured a reserve on Anzac Rd in Morningside.

Mr Metcalfe said Mr Lloyd-Jones had not accessed his bank account or used his phone to call or send texts.

"We're concerned about his safety and wellbeing and appeal for any sightings to be reported to police."

A Facebook post appealing for news of Mr Lloyd-Jones has been shared hundreds of times.

Comments on the post suggested there may have been a sighting of Mr Lloyd-Jones late this week but police have been unable to confirm it was the missing man.
