Police investigating a fire that ripped through a house on Raumanga Valley Rd, Northland, are seeking information about a vehicle seen in the area.

Officers were called to the Raumanga address at 6.20am on Wednesday after a couch on the front porch was allegedly set on fire.

All five occupants in the house were asleep when the fire started, Whangārei CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said.

“Thankfully, they were able to evacuate safely.”

Witnesses described seeing a white or silver-coloured vehicle around the time of the fire.

Police are interested in talking to anyone who might have seen the vehicle around Mahana Place or Raumanga Valley Rd, between 5.45am and 6.15am on Wednesday, Pilmer said.

“If you saw a vehicle matching the description, please contact us.

“Even the smallest piece of information could be valuable to the investigation.”

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity before or after the fire, including those with dashcam footage, Pilmer said.
