There's a petal blight hitting the country's camellias, but it didn't put a blight on the weekend's Whangārei Camellia Show.

Hundreds of people visited Forum North on Saturday to see the Whangārei Camellia Society's annual show, which had some great blooms despite the blight, club president Trish Byles said.

"It went very well considering the blight that is affecting camellias across the country. I had people coming up to me during the show asking how we managed to get such lovely flowers without any blight,'' Byles said.

''But it was just the luck of the draw really. I cut some of mine the night before and by the next morning they were showing a bit of the blight, so we were very lucky.''
