One person has died following a crash near Mangapai, police say.

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash on Waiotira Rd about 10.50pm yesterday.

The passenger of the vehicle died and the driver was taken to hospital, police said.

The Serious Crash Unit was sent to the scene.

Police said they were speaking with a man as part of their investigation.
