Not guilty plea in Dargaville triple fatality

A Dargaville man charged over the deaths of three people in a crash near the town has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Russell Stewart, 49, appeared in Dargaville District Court this morning on charges relating to the deaths of Susie Stewart, 48, her daughter Sadie, 16, and family friend Jamie Wearmouth, 18 in a fatal crash on Baylys Coast Rd on June 6 this year.

The trio, all Brethren Church members, died when a ute they and five others were in crashed into a tree after they had been at the beach.

In a short appearance in the court this morning Stewart entered not guilty pleas to seven charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing death or injury, and one charge of failing to remain at an accident.

He was remanded on bail to reappear on November 24 for a case review hearing.
