Young Northland BMX riders took to the biggest stage and returned with three titles from the 2018 BMX New Zealand National Championships.

Luke Brooke-Smith, Tyla Dinsdale and Blake Andrews all left New Plymouth with a number one ranking after impressive rides in their respective divisions.

Brooke-Smith was in a class of his own in the 10 Boys division, winning every race he competed in.

The 9-year-old's national title was his fourth in a row after winning the 6s, 7s and 8s previously.

Andrews won the 7 Boys division in an equally strong showing of his riding skills.

The Onerahi Primary 7-year-old has enjoyed a strong couple of months of performances and his nationals result was just reward for hard work.

He was the fourth-best qualifier before finishing second in his semifinal, but he wasn't done.

Andrews saved his best performance for last, taking line honours in a tough race.

Dinsdale put in strong efforts in the 8-10 Mixed Cruiser class and the 10 Boys division but it was in the former that he took top spot.

He qualified third in the Mixed Cruiser competition before beating all comers in the final, including fellow Northlander Dario Piskulic who finished seventh.

Dinsdale also raced in the 10 Boys class won by Brooke-Smith, finishing fifth overall.

Northland had strong performances outside the division winners as well.

Lance Dinsdale grabbed a pair of top-10 finishes in the 35-39 Male 20 Inch and 35-39 Male Cruiser classes.

He was fourth overall in the Male 20 Inch and sixth in the Male Cruiser.

Emily Darroch completed a top-10 placing in the 14 Girls, finishing eighth overall.

Other Northlanders who attended the BMX Nationals were Jacob Romer, Angus Darroch, Katja Stupar and Mala Suvalko-Thomas.
