Hikoi
A hikoi in Kaikohe this morning wasorganised by five Mangakahia marae to express dissatisfaction with the current leadership of Te Runanga o te Ngāpuhi. Spokeswoman Sharon Kaipo said the Mangakahia hapu want to be treated as an entity with a voice but the runanga, representing Ngāpuhi Treaty of Waitangi claimants and settlements under the Tuhoronuku umbrella, was ignoring them. Tuhoronuku's mandate is disputed by other iwi and hapu, including Ngāti Hine and Hokianga hapu, who set up the rival Te Kotahitanga group. The hikoi was to walk from the Kaikohe RSA and walk to the runanga office in Mangakahia Rd.
$1m Lotto winner
An Auckland Lotto player was cheering after scoring $1 million with Lotto First Division in Lotto. The winning ticket was sold on MyLotto. Powerball was not struck and has rolled over to Wednesday night, where the jackpot will be $6m. Meanwhile, Strike Four also rolled over and will be $300,000. The winning numbers in Saturday's lotto draw were 02, 03, 04, 09, 20 and 24 with the bonus mumber 30 and Powerball number 09.
