Dead woman named
A woman who died after a crash on Ngunguru Rd on January 18 was Kerry Louise Love, of Whangarei, police say. Ms Love died in hospital in Auckland on Monday after the crash about 2.15pm on a wet Ngunguru Rd, between Coalhill Lane and Waipoka Rd, nearMurphy's Corner.
Ms Love was the driver and sole occupant of one car, while another woman and a child were in the other car. The second woman was seriously injured and the boy suffered moderate injuries.
Armed incident
Police are looking for a man they believe can help them with their inquiries after an armed incident in Kamo on Monday. Inspector Justin Rogers said police received a report of a male threatening another male, with a weapon about 4.30pm.
He said police believe it is a domestic-related incident and believe there is no indication at this stage that the person they are seeking poses any threat to the wider community. Cordons were put up at Charles St about 5pm and the armed offenders squad arrived about 5.45pm. The cordons were lifted at 9.30pm because police were unable to find the man.
Lotto winner $11k richer
A ticket sold in Northland was among 25 that each won more than $11,000 in Lotto Second Division on Saturday. The ticket, sold at Sweet Gifts, in Ruakaka, won $11,240.
The 2018 Hikoi ki Waitangi left Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga) on Monday. It will arrive in Kaitaia today, Kaikohe tomorrow, Kawakawa on Friday and Waitangi on Saturday. The hikoi is described as a pilgrimage of acknowledgement of more than 40 years of protest movements that shaped the country of today.
Piano competition
The dates for the 2018 Kerikeri International Piano Competition have been announced; September 26 to 30. The biennial competition has previously been a three-day event but this year will be extended to a fourth day. Joining the judges' panel this year are Awadagin Pratt (USA), Soo-Jung Shin (South Korea) and Phillip Shovk (Australia).
The competition began in 1987 as a national event and is now recognised as New Zealand's foremost classical music competition for solo pianists. In 2012, it expanded into an international event and has since gained recognition worldwide for its quality and good organisation.
