Community Christmas tree vandalised
The Kerikeri Community Charitable Trust is appealing for information after the community Christmas tree was vandalised. The trust said around 50% of the programmable lights were damaged recently, which was “disheartenening”. The community Christmas tree is located by the library in the Kerikeri Domain during the festive season. Some community members had provided information about the incident, and the trust was waiting to review CCTV footage. Contact the trust via Facebook or visit kerikeriourtown.co.nz if you can help.
Water use reduction request
Whangārei District Council has advised residents in Hikurangi, Tikipunga, Whau Valley, Te Kamo, Three Mile Bush, Ōtangarei and Tikipunga to use less water than usual. Teams are working to repair a reservoir leak, which will take about three weeks to repair. Two of the five water pumps are out of service which affects the ability to deliver water to northern parts of the Whangārei District. Water services manager Andrew Venmore said the repair works would be faster if people reduced their use of water during the rest of January.
A night road closure is planned for State Highway 1 near Kamo Rd starting on Sunday, January 12 and continuing until Tuesday, January 28. NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) will be resurfacing the road. Traffic will detour through Te Kamo between 8pm and 5am each night while the highway is resealed. The detour is not approved for HPMV trucks. Whangārei District Council said it was co-ordinating with NZTA to set traffic light signals appropriately at the Kamo Rd intersection.
