A man hospitalised after an alleged assault in Hongi St, Kaikohe, has been discharged and is recovering at home. Police have since charged a 26-year-old man with wounding with intent to injure. The accused appeared in Kaikohe District Court on Monday and was granted bail to reappear on February 10.
Carnival day
Families are invited to enjoy a fun-filled day at the Ōtaua Carnival Day, presented by the Ōtaua Sports Club and Hauora Hokianga. Organisers said the event will be a fun day for all ages and includes bouncy castles, games, food stalls and trucks and more. It takes place at the Ōtaua Sports Club on Renwick Rd on January 24 and is gold coin entry.
Asbestos removal
A licensed asbestos removalist will take away asbestos-containing materials from Kaitāia College between January 19 and 23. The Ministry of Education website has further information about the management of asbestos and procedures to ensure the safety of all affected by the work at the school and community. Epic auctions
Two local organisations had successful auctions at the weekend and raised thousands of dollars. The Mangonui Lion’s Club collected more than $9000 and the Hokianga RSA over $13,000 from their respective annual sales.
