Russell’s 20-year-old carolling tradition continues this year with the annual Christmas Carols at Pompallier Mission and Printery. Set on the shoreline in Russell, the tohu whenua cared for by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga will host the festive community get-together on December 20, from 5.30pm.
Set net crackdown
Fishery officers will be stepping up pressure on recreational fishers who break set net rules during the summer. Most recreational fishers follow the rules and the nationwide compliance rate is 94%. But set nets that don’t meet regulations remain a problem, particularly in the Port Waikato, Kaipara Harbour and Manukau Harbour areas. Fisheries New Zealand regional manager north, Andre Espinoza, said some places are closed or have restrictions on set netting and fishers need to understand this as part of their planning or face the cost of not doing so. For set net rules, go to mpi.govt.nz.
Rocker on tour
Kiwi rocker Andrew Fagan will bring songs from his 35-year career to Whangārei on his Passage of Time tour. He’ll also be reading poetry and telling stories about his sailing adventures during the event at OneOneSix on November 30. Fagan has just released a 23-song compilation album, also named Passage of Time, spanning more than three decades of his solo songwriting. For tickets, go to eventfinda.co.nz
