Onerahi collision
A person was taken to Whangārei Hospital in a moderate condition after a crash involving a car and a motorbike on Beach Rd, Onerahi, about 11.20pm yesterday.
Rescue heroes
People are being asked to nominate those who risk their lives to bring loved ones home for the 2025 New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR) Awards. The awards honour exceptional performances in specific search and rescue missions and significant impacts made through training, prevention, long service, or other vital support roles. Serious injuries
Two people were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 between Marsden Point Rd and Doctors Hill Rd, Ruakākā, on Wednesday about 11.40pm. Fire and Emergency says firefighters spent nearly an hour working to free one of the occupants from the vehicle. Both people were taken to Whangārei Hospital.
Kensington fire
Whangārei firefighters were called to a block of three units on King St, Kensington, at about 8.25am yesterday after a fire broke out in a bedroom. Fire and Emergency says the blaze was brought under control within about 20 minutes. The occupants were not home at the time.
