Police are appealing for information after the theft of a boat from a commercial yard in Whangārei on Tuesday. They say the quick actions of a member of the public meant the 7.5-metre White Pointer boat, named Jasmine, was found dumped, without its trailer, near Wairua Falls in Tītoki. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 105, quoting file number 260106/3245, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Crash driver freed

A driver of a vehicle that rolled on Rawhiti Rd in the Far North on Tuesday was taken to hospital in a moderate condition. The person had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters.

Victim recovering

A man found injured outside a Hongi St property in Kaikohe last Sunday night is now stable after being taken to hospital in a critical condition. Anyone with information about the incident can contact police on 105 using the reference number 260105/8363 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Onerahi collision

A person was taken to Whangārei Hospital in a moderate condition after a crash involving a car and a motorbike on Beach Rd, Onerahi, about 11.20pm yesterday.

Rescue heroes

People are being asked to nominate those who risk their lives to bring loved ones home for the 2025 New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR) Awards. The awards honour exceptional performances in specific search and rescue missions and significant impacts made through training, prevention, long service, or other vital support roles. Nominations close on January 31 and can be made via www.nzsar.govt.nz/nzsar-awards/nominations.

Serious injuries

Two people were seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 between Marsden Point Rd and Doctors Hill Rd, Ruakākā, on Wednesday about 11.40pm. Fire and Emergency says firefighters spent nearly an hour working to free one of the occupants from the vehicle. Both people were taken to Whangārei Hospital.

Kensington fire

Whangārei firefighters were called to a block of three units on King St, Kensington, at about 8.25am yesterday after a fire broke out in a bedroom. Fire and Emergency says the blaze was brought under control within about 20 minutes. The occupants were not home at the time.
