Whangārei boat fire
Fire crews were called to a fire in the engine room of a boat in Whangārei on Saturday. However, Fire and Emergency shift manager Megan Ruru said the fire was out by the time crews arrived. She said the fire was believed to have been caused by welding. The boat was in the slipway of a dry dock on Fraser St when the fire happened shortly after 9am.
A tractor and strops were needed to extract a horse from a creek at Whangārei Heads. Fire crews were called to a property on Rukuwai Rd, Parua Bay just after 6pm on Saturday where a horse had been discovered stuck in a creek. Paul McDonald from Whangārei Heads Fire brigade said the crew were able to pull the horse out, before a vet came and checked it over and gave it the okay. He said it was unknown how long the horse had been in the creek.
