Art exhibition
More than 34 women artists' work will feature in Trailblazing, an exhibition at the Megan Dickinson Gallery to commemorate women getting the vote in New Zealand. All Kiwi women were entitled to vote for the first time from September 19, 1893, when the 1893 Electoral Act was signed. Women who had registered to vote could do so for the first time 12 weeks later. The mixed-media show celebrating the 125th Anniversary of Womens Suffrage in New Zealand - Whakatu Wahine opens on Thursday, September 20 and closes on October 20. Megan Dickinson Gallery is in Rust Ave, Whangarei.
Kaitaia alert
Police found nothing of concern when they responded to a 111 call from a Kaitaia address on Tuesday evening. The occupants, who insisted that they had not made the call, suggested that their dog might have done so, inadvertently, when it sat on the phone.
Police aid
Police found a very intoxicated man at Kareponia, east of Awanui, this week after a member of the public reported seeing someone lying on the side of the road. He had been walking home, a distance of 6km, a spokesman said, and in his condition probably wouldn't have made it, so was given a ride.
