The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a colourful event held at Edinburgh Castle during August, showcasing the talents of musicians and performers from every corner of the globe.
Devon, who attends Whangarei Girls' High School, is the only dancer from New Zealand to join the 2018 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Dance Company.
She performed in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2014 with a team of New Zealanders and made it her goal to return to the event in 2018.
"It was an amazing experience. It felt so amazing to be representing my country on the world stage and performing for so many people, it was just incredible."
Devon said she wanted to start dance lessons because she was very energetic and she has Scottish heritage. She remembers her first lesson.
"I remember going with my mum and we went in the studio and there was these two girls dancing and they were doing a sword dance. I remember thinking 'wow that's so cool, I really want to do that'."
When applications opened for this year's tattoo Devon submitted an audition video in February. She initially was put on a reserves list and had to re-audition at the end of March and was accepted.
"It's an amazing experience and I'm very happy I get the opportunity to do it again. I think it helps with competitions because there are so many people watching you so it makes it easier when there are only a few watching at a competition.
The theme of this year's tattoo is "The Sky's the Limit". It is fitting for Devon because she hopes to be a pilot and todayshe leaves to attend the Royal New Zealand Air Force Schools to Skies programme at Ohakea Air Force Base.
"With dancing I was always travelling a lot and I just really enjoyed flying and I thought being a pilot would be different to being a flight attendant."
Devon leaves for Scotland on July 29.
