ONGOING: Whangarei's Nixon St is closed to everyone but residents until December because of roadworks.

Whangarei's Nixon St is closed to everyone but residents until December as roadworks continue.

Project manager Mark Seakins said works during this period would include installation of the remaining kerb and channel, construction of footpaths, regrading driveway entrances, installation of signs and construction of the asphalt road pavement. Stage 2 of the project would then start in 2016, including the upgrade of the Kamo Rd/Kensington Ave/Nixon St intersection and the completion of the four-laning of Nixon St. When complete, there would be four lanes along Nixon St between Mill and Kamo roads and new intersections with traffic lights at Mill/Nixon and Kamo/Kensington.
