Certificate applications open
Applications are open for the Waipapa Taumata Rau/the University of Auckland’s free Tertiary Foundation Certificate (TFC) programme based at its campus in Whangārei. The course starts in March and is an alternative pathway to gain university entrance. To learn more visit www.auckland.ac.nz/tfc.
Accident closes road
The southbound lane of State Highway 1 between Maromaku and Tōwai was closed for a short time on Tuesday following a crash. A police spokesman said a vehicle towing a caravan crashed and no injuries were reported. Southbound traffic was diverted through Callaghans Rd but northbound traffic remained open. Appliances from Fire and Emergency attended.
Paddling safety workshop
Free paddling safety workshops for people interested in kayaking or paddleboarding will take place in Kerikeri on February 1 and Whangārei the following day. They are part of the KayakSafe NZ programme, run by the Kiwi Association of Sea Kayakers (KASK) and made possible by Safer Boating Forum funding support from Maritime New Zealand.
