Something is brewing in central Whangarei but exactly what remains a mystery.
A colourful design made up of blocks of colour and stripes has been painted on a section of road on Butter Factory Lane by artist Melinda Butt.
The lane, which runs between Laurie Hall carpark and Rathbone St, is mainly used as a service lane for businesses and the entrance to Curves Gym and bar The Butter Factory.
The Whangarei District Council are remaining coy at this stage on what it is all about but says all will be revealed on Friday.

Keegan Hagen was one of a handful of people who walked along the road and was curious about what it was.
"I don't know what it is, but I think it's nice. It's better to have it than not I guess."
Bronwyn Noy thought it was quite bright: "It's better than a dreary old road."
