RnB singer Pieter T, rapper K One and Tyree from hip-hop group Smashproof are just some of the artists who will be in Kaitaia for a concert aimed at bringing the community together.

Whanau Tuatahi, family first, is an all-day festival created by radio station, Twang FM. Station manager Marris Collins said when he launched the new radio station in January he wanted to put something on that would "bring the whanau together".

"It's something to enjoy, especially for families who have nothing to do. There's not too many events held in Kaitaia," he said.

Saturday's gold-coin donation, alcohol and drug-free event will be held at the old Pak'nSave car park and has already created buzz in Kaitaia and created a sense of community.

"We've got bouncy castles donated by a lady in the community, she usually hires them out but because it was a whanau day she donated one. We also have a police presence."

Mr Collins said he was not too sure how many people would be at the event, but said judging by feedback he expected numbers would be high. "I just want to thank the staff and the community for how supportive they've been, everybody has been saying how good this will be for the community."

Mr Collins said he was looking forward to having an event away from pubs.

"Usually when we do have performances, they're at the local pub and that's not fair for people who don't go to pubs," he said.

The event is not just music-based, Mr Collins said there would also be activities for kids.

- The event runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday at the Old Pak'nSave car park in Commerce St, Kaitaia. Event is gold-coin donation. Attractions include food stalls, bouncy castles, entertainment and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
