Wayne Wrack and Madeline Yovich have bowled their way to gold at the World Masters Games in Auckland.

The Northland pairing cruised through the early stages of the Mixed Pairs 60-69 Lawn Bowls competition, before romping through the playoffs to set a finals date with Leslie Lagatule and Liline Hewett.

Wrack and Yovich then preceded to dismantle their opponents, running out 12-6 victors.
The winners knocked out fellow Northlanders Diane Strawbridge and Bill Harris in the semifinals.

Strawbridge and Harris won't go home empty-handed however, winning the bronze medal playoff.

Meanwhile Northland has not been slacking in the medal department as the competition progresses, particularly in track and field.

Carroll Irvine added to her 1500m race walk silver medal with another silver in the W40-44 3000m event.

Ugen Iyer picked up a pair of sprinting medals in the F30-34 division. She took silver in the 100m before tearing away with the gold in the 200m.

Northland's oldest athlete Clasina van der Veeken moved her medal tally to five in the F85-89 competition.

Adding to her gold in the half-marathon, van der Veeken grabbed silver in the 100m and gold in long jump, triple jump and the hammer throw.

Dennis Langford also grabbed a medal, taking out bronze in the M40-44 javelin.

Meanwhile the Ngapuhi Nui Tonu Touch Masters squads were on form at Bruce Pulman Park.

The mixed 35-40 side took out gold while the mixed 27-30 team finished with a bronze.

Para-cyclist Stephen Knott will be coming home with a gold medal after taking out the C4 40+ time trial, while Chris Sharp is in medal contention in the Weta Single-Handed Fleet sailing competition. He sits in third after eight races.

Out on the hockey turf, the NZ Grey Sticks are through to the playoffs of the W35 A Grade.

The side features Suzie Muirhead, Toni Wright, Sandy Hitchcock, Jenny Pooley and Lizzie Horlock who are all former Black Sticks.

Pooley and Hitchcock were part of the bronze medal winning NZ Blacks Sticks Women's team that completed in 1998 at Kuala Lumpur.

Hitchcock, Muirhead and Horlock had stints as captain of the Black Sticks during their careers.
