Step out of your comfort zone and make something out of the last few days of holiday.

Are you making the most of your school holidays?

As the days go by, the seemingly never ending amount of free time begins to slowly dry up.

How can you stop this you may ask?

Well, you can't.

However, you can make those precious days last longer by taking advantage of our amazing surroundings to launch your 2015.

One thing I always find myself doing is "cleaning out the old year".

This entails throwing out any old books due to subject changes, getting rid of useless items lying around my bedroom and sorting my clothes into wearable and unwearable.

If you are in your last year of school and no uniform is required, you can always hand down your clothing to younger siblings or donate them to charity.

Another way of "prolonging summer" is to get outside and visit some of Northland's natural attractions.

Beaches, forests and parks that are of postcard quality are in abundance in this region.

With the current weather we are having, there is no reason why everybody shouldn't be out enjoying their time in the sun.

Don't allow yourself to sit around in a state of boredom every day because you will look back on your school holidays and regret not venturing out more.

The more new things you try over the next three weeks, the more you will learn. This will improve your overall experience and you will feel as though you have spent time wisely rather than squandering it procrastinating.

Learn a new language, an instrument, even a recipe if that is what you are into.

Maybe step out of your comfort zone once in a while to make your summer holiday experience worthwhile.
