It was two from two for Moerewa Tigers but coach Peter Prime reckons his side has not reached its full potential yet.

They beat Otangarei Knights 34-20 at Simson Park in Moerewa on Saturday after hammering Northern Wairoa Bulls 72-8 in the second round of the Rugby League Northland Scott Electrical Premiership on April 9.

"Always happy to take two points but there's always room for improvement.

"Two on the trot is certainly the start you want but we're more focused on training and improving," Prime said.

He said the wet conditions were not conducive to the way his side wanted to play and heaped praise on Otangarei Knights for their fighting spirit.

"They've got highly skilled backs and good players in the right positions. They definitely have a lot of potential and they'll be a threat down the competition."

Prime said his players did not execute their moves well and made errors on the wrong side of the field.

Fortunately, he said the opposition could not capitalise on the Tigers' mistakes.

Prime singled out props Elai George and William Wiki, plus lock Herewini Selwyn and No6 Wilson Hona as standout players in Saturday's match.

George bagged two tries while others came from Herewini, Te Tuhi Tipene and Jimmy Tauranga.

In the other matches, Takahiwai Warriors defeated Portland Panthers 42-14 in Portland and Northern Wairoa Bulls won 38-16 against Horahora Broncos.
