Otangarei Knights ground out a tough 30-16 win against Portland Panthers during the Rugby League Northland Scott Electrical Premiership on Saturday.
Centre Franko Newton, loose forward Sepeti Tatau, wing Bryce Rauahi, and hooker Sam Henry scored the hosts' tries at Fishbone Park in Otangarei.
Co-coach Jon Hunapo said it was
not an easy win against a side that had beaten the in-form Moerewa Tigers.
"They made us play. We expected them to be tough but we're quietly going about our work and there's a lot to improve on," he said.
"Our goal this year is to make the semis and we feel we're getting there."
