"Welcome to our village wee one," Ardern wrote on Instagram at 6.15pm on Thursday.

As many across the globe were sending well wishes to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Clarke Gayford's' newly born baby girl, Trade Me wanted to hint at some popular toys that Kiwi's were searching.

Trade Me spokeswoman Millie Silvester said while the Prime Minister and Gayford were undoubtedly getting inundated with advice that all new parents suffer from they wanted to let them know what was popular for other Kiwi kids.

"We don't want to add to the confusion but we know that every kid loves a good toy so we thought we'd take a look at the toy habits of parents (and grandparents) around the country so the First Baby has plenty of cool things to keep it entertained in the years ahead.

"Wooden baby toys have made a bit of a comeback recently as more and more Kiwis ditch the plastic and opt for a more natural alternative. In May, Kiwis searched for wooden toys over 12,400 times to make them the most searched for baby toy on Trade Me," Silvester said.

Exersaucers, which older babies can sit in and play with toys, came in a close second with just over 12,000 searches in May.

"These little activity centres are a big hit with parents as they give little Kiwis hours of enjoyment and parents a wee break."

Kiwis searched for play gyms 6400 times in May making them the third most popular baby toy.

"It's great to see that the age-old Buzzy Bee is still in the mix as one of the most popular baby toys on Trade Me. In May we saw over 2500 searches for the wooden pull-along toys."

Little Tikes toys and particularly the Cozy Coupe cars have always been a hit with Kiwi kids so it comes as no surprise that this made the top five toys with 2,000 searches in May.
