Kiwi singer and songwriter Annie Crummer will be headlining the Matariki Whānau Festival at Whangārei's Town Basin tomorrow, joined by a full line up of acts and plenty of other entertainment.

Organised by Whangārei District Council, the event will be held from 10am to 2pm.

Crummer headlines the festival along with Riqi Harawira and plenty of wonderful Māori performances.

The Matariki Market on the Canopy Bridge will feature traditional kai and there will be plenty of fun free activities for the district's tamariki.

This year's theme is "Mai te Maunga ki te Moana" - from the Mountains to the Sea. This kaupapa emphasises our Tai Ao and how our activities at the Matariki time of year focus on renewal, harvesting and planting.

Due the stage's new location and the interactive section of the event, the Town Basin car park at the corner of Dent St and Riverside Drive will be closed to the public from 6am Friday until after pack down on Saturday.

Things kick off with a mihi whakatau at 10am, followed by a performance from Empire Dance Studio at 10.30am, Creative Minds at 10.40am, Idea Services Kapa Haka at 11am.
Harmonies Divergent start at 11.15am and MC Blaksawd at 11.35am.

The afternoon session kicks off at noon with talented young duo Eli and Izaia, with Riqi Harawira at 12.20pm, Kamo Intermediate School Kapa Haka at 12.45pm. Crummer takes to the stage at 1pm.
