The Kerikeri International Piano Competition not on this weekend as reported in today's Northern Advocate.

The competition is actually in September, but the wrong dates are on the Eventfinda website, saying it is on from July 27 to July 30. The Advocate apologises for publishing the incorrect information.

The competition, which features 15 future piano stars, is on at the Turner Centre, in Kerikeri, from September 26-30.

The competition has gained global recognition since it began in 1987 for its quality and high standard of entry.

This year's contestants are Ahhyun Lee - Republic of Korea; Baichao Lan – China; Benjamin Goodman – Israel; Delvan Lin – New Zealand; Dong Yi Lee – Australia; Jeremy So – Australia; Katherine Benson – USA; Lin Ye – China; Shuan Hern Lee – Australia; Sohyun Shim – Republic of Korea; Sunhwa Kim – Republic of Korea; Yedam Kim – Republic of Korea; Yilin Liu – China; Yui Yoshioka – Japan and Zixiang Wang – China.

The competition is a member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation for International Competitions and has New Zealand pianist Michael Houstoun as patron.

With 61 entries from all corners of the world and a standard of audition exceeding that of previous years, the 2018 competition is set to be more thrilling than ever.

Three international judges from the United States, South Korea and Australia will listen to the 15 competitors as they perform a wide range of music from the solo piano repertoire. All will take part in rounds one and two, with four selected for the final.
