Whangarei-owned and operated Kauriland Petroleum, which distributes all Mobil fuel throughout the North Island, has been bought out by its South Island counterpart, Allied Petroleum.
The move will give Allied Petroleum a nationwide network, with 61 service stations and deliveries to direct farm and commercial customers throughout the country.
The new business
will have an annual turnover estimated to be $250 million, employ 140 staff, and operate 55 fuel tankers.
Kauriland was owned by managing director Alan Lang and Craig de Buisson of Whangarei, both of whom will stay involved in the business during the transition. The new owner has issued an assurance that offices in Whangarei, Auckland, Hastings and Christchurch will all be maintained, and that investment will continue in trucks, facilities and personnel.
Allied Petroleum's manager, Mark Jordan, said with major oil companies reviewing their New Zealand operations, the New Zealand-owned and operated business was well placed to grow.
Allied Petroleum is part of the family-owned H W Richardson Group, based in Invercargill. In addition to fuel, the group has interests in transport, concrete, and contracting.
The new blended operation will be structured as two companies.
Allied Petroleum Ltd will focus on fuel, while Allied Lubricants Ltd has been established as a specialised nationwide distributor for the Mobil lubricants range. Both will be managed by Mark Jordan, who will report to the managing director of the H W Richardson Group, Scott O'Donnell.
