As the couples are supporters of Tearfund NZ, the cafe challenged chef Carl to get creative in the kitchen for the Dine Below The Line event.
"Carl the chef managed to create dishes that cost no more than $2.85 each, and our customers were so generous in their donations to the charity," said Kelly Ludlow.
"It's terrible to think that the majority of the world live on less than $2.85 a day, with little or no opportunity to make a living wage.
"We were delighted to be able to help Tearfund."
Tearfund's partners work to enable sustainable enterprise opportunities, such as self-help groups in India and farming co-operatives in the Philippines.
