Water has been restored to Kaikohe, following an outage.
Kaikohe School was forced to close this morning and hundreds of homes are without water after a major water main in the town burst.
Far North District Council contractors were on site and urgently worked to find the cause andhave water restored.
They hope to have the water back on about noon or 1pm. Water was restored around noon.
The burst water main is affected water supplies to Bisset Rd, Broadway, Clifford St, Dickeson St, De Merle St, Fuller Place, Harold Ave, Heke St, Hillcrest Rd, Hongi St, Monument Rd, Omapere Rd, Orrs Rd, Ripi St, Routley Ave, Rowsell Heights, Shaw St, Sydney St, Taheke Rd, Taraire St, Tawanui Rd, Te Ra Place, Tuhuna Rd, Tui St, and Williams Ave.
In a message to parents, Kaikohe East School said it could not operate safely without running water for toilets and drinking and asked caregivers to pick up students.
Children will still be marked present for the day.
“Health and safety requires that we have running water at school for toilets and drinking water. As we cannot meet this requirement at this time, we are closing because of health and safety concerns.”
