Jono Reeves is hoping to get people out the front door and on to the dance floor.
The Maungakaramea resident has started a local branch of his family's successful Auckland-based entertainment business - Going Bananas.
The 34-year-old entertainer and DJ, who moved to the district from Auckland last year withhis UK-born wife Kim, wants to host community events where people feel welcome and have fun dancing.
"These events are to encourage others to get out and about, meet new people and welcome newbies to town," he said.
Mr Reeves recently organised a Country & Western themed community event in Maungakaramea and is working on a fun night out at the Northland Club for its members later this month.
At the weekends he spends time MCing and DJing at weddings and sporting events for Going Bananas.
In January 2016 he married Kim and six months later they bought their first home at Maungakaramea.
"We moved to Whangarei because we were chasing our tails in Auckland, we had no home just each other and we felt no sense of community, my wife's from the UK and fell in love with Northland.
"We love living in the Whangarei District and look forward to becoming more involved in the community in the years to come," Mr Reeves said.
Going Bananas has been in business for 17 years and has provided sound, music and entertainment at hundreds of weddings.
"All have been extremely successful," Mr Reeves said.
