Two crashes at Northland intersections have led to a police warning for people to pay more attention.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to a crash on Mill Rd near the intersection with Deveron St about 8.30am yesterday. A female driver was temporarily trapped and freed by firefighters before being taken to Whangarei Hospital by ambulance.
It's believed a vehicle crossing Mill Rd from Deveron St hit a car travelling towards the city centre.
Police were able to keep traffic flowing while emergency staff dealt with the patients, including children, and interviewed witnesses on the side of the road.
Meanwhile, one lane of State Highway One was temporarily closed to allow a tow truck to pull a four-wheel-drive vehicle from scrub near Hikurangi after a crash with another vehicle about 12.30pm.
Senior Constable Russell Rawiri, of Hikurangi, said a car had stopped at the intersection with King St but then pulled out on to the highway and collided with the four-wheel drive, which crossed the northbound lane, crashed through a fence and stopped in scrub.
He said more care was needed when stopping and then pulling out from intersections particularly on to highways where traffic was often travelling at 100km/h. Charges were likely to be laid after the Hikurangi crash.
