Hockey: Top four making moves on women's table

Two thirds of the way through the season, the reserve A women's hockey competition ladder is starting to take shape with a clear top four emerging.

Hikurangi remain unbeaten at the top of the table after beating second placed Maungakaramea 3-1 on Friday night.

The niggly win sees them three points clear at the top of the table with one more round-robin game to play before the finals.

Whangarei Girls' High School hold on to third place after beating Parihaka 2-0 in a tight match on Friday.

Old Girls are just two points behind in fourth after they put on a good show to beat Mangapai 10-0.

Twelve points behind third, there is a battle for fourth spot after Springfield beat Kamo High School 3-0 to leapfrog Parihaka, with only goal difference separating the two teams.

In the men's competition, Maungakaramea are clear favourites heading in the last round of matches after they beat Springfield 4-0 on Thursday to remain undefeated. They hold a 13 point lead over the competition.

Their nearest rivals, Hora Hora won by default over Bream Bay to stay in second place.

Mangapai remain just one point back in third after they beat Whangarei Boys' High School 3-0, setting up what will be some great battles heading into the finals of the six team competition.
