Hayward Norman - Denby byelection candidate

Hayward Norman - Denby byelection candidate

I love this place!

It would be a huge privilege to serve the people of Whangarei as a District Councillor for Denby Ward.

I have lived here since 1978 and have seen the Town Basin area develop.

The District Council has done a magnificent job with the Hatea Loop and connecting bridges.

Te Matau a Pohe Bridge is a showcase of our shared stories that has won international acclaim.

I married Jane Austen of Waipu in 1981 and we raised our four kids in Denby where they attended all three Schools in Kamo.

Whangarei has been good to us and I want to apply my skills and knowledge to take Whangarei to the next level.

Cultural Tourism will bring huge benefits and will enhance what we are already working towards in the Long Term Plan for our District.

I have worked in Community Services in Whangarei for 35 years:

* TEAM MEMBER of Department of Social Welfare OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAMME working with teenagers to offer positive alternatives to Crime.

* A Leader with TE ORA HOU Youth Club now based at The Pulse in Raumanga.

* Trustee of DAYLIGHT TRUST which started the Youth Work Training Programme that became the Regent Training Centre

* DIRECTOR of Whangarei City Youth Centre.

* COMMUNITY WORKER at Tikipunga Drop-In Centre.

* COMMUNITY WORKER at Pa O Te Ora in Hikurangi.

* I currently work with NGATI HINE HEALTH in Whangarei.

As a Councillor for Denby, I would find out what the people want through holding regular Meet your Councillor Clinics.

We have never been in such a good position to see our Region thrive with jobs for our people and Tourism booming.
