Tikipunga High School was damaged in July by a fire thought to be set by youths.
On July 2 there was an arson at Tikipunga High School. The young people responsible were not students of the school. They have accepted responsibility for their actions and are being held accountable in the Youth Court.
One of the young people has helped write this letter as one ofmany components under a family group conference plan as part of the accountability process. A great deal has also been learned through the Fire Intervention Programme.
Tikipunga High School takes great pride in the pastoral care it provides and the academic and extra-curricular achievements of its students. The school continues to rebuild from the damage caused to its buildings and its reputation but it needs to be acknowledged that this arson was not a reflection of the students, behaviours or culture of Tikipunga High School.
