Carparking around Whangarei Hospital is causing difficulties.

Carparking around Whangarei Hospital is causing difficulties.

Recently, Whangarei Hospital has provided extra parking for staff and visitors. However, many people are not using this and are therefore creating a lot of problems for residents in Te Mai and Hospital roads.

Residents of Hospital Rd are experiencing severe traffic congestion problems during the hours of 7.30am to 6pm during the working week.

Cars are parking on both sides of Hospital Rd thus converting the road literally into a single lane, which makes movement difficult up and down the road especially when combined with a major building project which is going on for two years now.

* Drivers are parking on the corner near number 14 on the side going down and number 75 on the side going up. This means you cannot see who is coming around the corner.

* This makes things difficult for the men doing the rubbish pick-up.

* It causes difficulties for residents wanting to get in and out of driveways.

* It makes car movement up and down the road dangerous with poor distance visibility. Drivers are not able to see far enough ahead which is a big problem for drivers with trailers.

* It also causes dangers for children walking or riding bikes to and from school.

This has become a serious problem and we think that something really does need to be done about it. The hospital has recently provided lots of parking for staff and public visitors but it is not being fully utilised.
