Onerahi customers will now have to travel to Whangarei to use a post office.

Without public consultation we have been advised that Onerahi Post Bank will close mid-April and that most services will be provided via an agency located at Onerahi Pharmacy and for those services not provided, customers will have to travel into Whangarei Central Post Bank.

No reason has been given but I would expect there will be savings on staff salaries.

No apologies for reduced service and inconvenience to the public.

No consideration for those who do not have internet access or their own transport.

I have found the service at both premises, pharmacy and Kiwibank to be excellent; both are busy most of the time. For security and hygiene I don't use ATMs, preferring to use the counter staff for cash withdrawals.

It is ironic that the shopping area is likely to get a service we don't need, namely another liquor outlet, and a reduction in services we do need.
