The police no longer have a presence when your call for help goes all the way to Auckland, is forgotten in the system and ends up 24th on the joblist.
In public protection, we have become a number on the list?
We are not talking about a leaking water pipe or a powercut or even an operation here. We are talking about people's safety and privacy violations. Victims are traumatised and lose, by senseless destruction, irreplaceable possessions that mean nothing at all to the perpetrators. My daughter experienced a burglary at Cooper's Beach and the police never showed up there as well.
Still not much point to catching these scumbag burglars as they either get a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket or live it up in "prison", with free board and lodgings and have access to Facebook, twitter or other online devices where they can post out footage or stream their favourite music.
Most of us cannot afford a Smartphone, a car or even three meals a day and work hard for what we have got.
We need to demand better services from our police by contacting John Key and Minister of Police every time there is an offence. If enough of us do this then they may fund more local, on the ground, police for that area.
