The former Whangarei Harbour Board Building

The former Whangarei Harbour Board Building

Some questions for Harbour-siders: will Harbourside be iconic and raise the status of Whangarei? Will it provide a point of difference? Will it become renowned nationally and internationally?

Will it improve our economy and employment aspects? Will it attract tourists, especially the large volume of German ones and residents? (This group is the fifth largest contributor of migrants in NZ now.) Will it be inspirational for our primary and secondary school students, as well as painters and other artists, plus quilters, embroiderers, dressmakers, fabric artists, not to mention other architects? Will it add colour to our environment and be eco-friendly?

Will it cost ratepayers a fortune to build and maintain it? Will it detract from the maritime history already presented in our Northland Regional Museum? Will it become a white elephant?
