Money spent on the byelection could be used to care for poverty stricken children, says one reader.

Why is there no level playing field in New Zealand politics? National is able to travel in ministerial vehicles, have meals and accommodation paid for by the taxpayer, but opposition party members have to pay for their own road travel, meals and accommodation.

This puts the party in power at a huge advantage as we have seen in the Northland byelection as National can afford to send a continuous barrage of ministers taking turns to appear in the North costing tens of thousands of dollars to the taxpayer and giving free board to National party members. This is money that could be spent feeding hungry kids, but they are way down National's priority list.

Voting is now open, so get out there and flatten out the unfairness in our voting system.
