Re. Northern Advocate story re an elderly woman's dispute over what constitutes a "berm".
Most of us in this city have a strip of grass outside our property that runs from the boundary to the footpath, the council states that this "strip" is the owner's responsibility to keep mown, fairenough.
However, from the footpath to the road is council's responsibility.
Since most areas in Whangarei don't have have an "extra strip" from the footpath to the road then the council is off the hook so to speak.
In the Northern Advocate photo it clearly shows the "official berm running from the woman's boundary to the footpath, from the footpath to the road there is a second much larger area of grass which in any way or form cannot be considered the responsibility of the woman.
Mayor Sheryl Mai, who campaigned on helping the ordinary folk of this town, needs to be aware that since there are a high proportion of elderly people here, that her track record will be taken into account at the next election.
