A reader is unhappy about the state of the road in Whangarei.

I'm writing to you not about a poor quality of road but an unsafe road which is a disaster waiting to happen. I've lived in Third Avenue for over 20 years, and we've always had problems with people parking on both sides of the road and constantly blocking parts of driveways.

However, since the relocation of the playground it has gotten worse tenfold. Add that with the daily occurrence of speeding drivers using the road as a drag strip, it's only a matter of time before a tragedy occurs. We have rung the council many times but that gets absolutely nowhere. The best option we believe is yellow lining one side of the road as well as installing speed bumps like in 5th Ave.

The council has never given us the time of day over this problem but hopefully a bit of public pressure will get their attention. This road turns into a one-way street every single weekend.
