About 20 per cent of New Zealanders live with a disability - but Northland has the second highest rate of disabled people in the country at 29 per cent.

So as part of this year's election campaign a group calling itself 20percent has been set up to focus on educating and motivating people within the disabled community to get out and vote.

The aim is to ensure the disabled community's voice was heard and that they were fully informed before making their vote. Now 20percent and Tiaho Trust will be hosting two "Meet the Candidates" forums next week - one in Whangarei and one in Kaitaia - to inform the community on what each party's disabled policies are. The Whangarei meeting is in the Ratu Room, at Manaia PHO, Rust Ave on Wednesday from 2.30pm while the Kaitaia meeting will be at Te Ahu Centre on Thursday from 1.30pm.
